Adventure Time

Updated: Jan 7, 2020

Adventures of Leadership is a yearly trip for juniors and seniors to discover new life lessons and overall have a great time. This event took place on November 9th-10th in Anadarko, Oklahoma.

Adventures of Leadership has been a tradition that Putnam City Original has been involved with for 6 years. On this trip, students learn how to reflect and become better leaders and also how to have a positive impact on other people.

"We do self-reflection so they'll learn how to become a better leader, and also team building activities to learn how to work with other people,” Leadership teacher Mr. Hardesty said.

AOL was popular with students in the 90s but did not interest as many students into the 2000s. The leadership teachers decided to bring it back

“We brought it back just to give students a chance to get away from the school setting and have some time to talk about leadership skills. We found out that students here are serious about becoming better leaders.” Hardesty said.

Students who attended AOL also had fun with the activities they participated in. They enjoyed meeting new people at the retreat, and they made life long connections and friendships.

"The fact that we were in separate groups from our friends really helped with getting to know different people that we usually wouldn't talk to. We did a ropes course and laser tag in the night and then we went on a hike in the morning. It was early to watch the sunrise and it was really nice," junior Anahi Rodriguez Lopez said.

Students learned that life is not just about high school social life. AOL showed them that there are other meaningful responsibilities to focus on.

"It was a big wakeup call for me. In life, there's really not much time to do everything you need to do. What's more important first, is to make time for any other activities like working and school, which comes first before sports and friends and fun," senior Caleb Tate said.
